Book Worm Angels Story Time Benefit
Get ready to party at Story Time, Book Worm Angels’ second benefit evening on Saturday, October 18, 2008. Music, dancing, a silent auction, raffle and more await party-goers at Architectural Artifacts, 4325 North Ravenswood in Chicago, one of the city’s most unique and in-demand event venues.
A special performance by singer Alice Peacock will be a highlight of the evening. Alice also is co-founder and Board President of Rock for Reading, a funder of grassroots literacy initiatives in Chicago. A DJ will provide tunes throughout the evening, the annual “Angel of the Year” Awards will be presented, and Blue Plate will dish up some fabulous food.
Book Worm Angels partners with Rock for Reading and Weigl Publishing to "Create a Nation of Readers"
Creating a Nation of Readers was launched in April of 2007 through the collaboration of Weigl Publishers Inc. of New York and Rock for Reading and Book Worm Angels of Chicago. The program seeks to combat rising youth illiteracy rates in the United States through the recruitment of book donations from publishers and distribution of donated books to literacy organizations. Publishers who have books to donate should contact Linda Weigl at linda@weigl.com. Organizations requiring books may make application at the Rock for Reading website, www.rockforreading.com. Thanks to all the Book Worm Angels friends and supporters for another successful year-end fund-raising event. The total dollars collected were up 26% from last year. Your support is gratefully appreciated by the Board and, especially, by all the kids who would otherwise never have books to read at home.
The Chicago Wolves/Book Worm Angels Book Drive, Saturday, March 3 against the Hamilton Bulldogs, and Sunday, March 4 against the San Antonio Rampage was a howling success again. Thanks to all the Wolves fans who donated over 5,000 books to Book Worm Angels for at-risk kids.
Book Worm Angels and Rock for Reading distributed a donation of 33,000 books from Weigl Publishers to all 87 schools in the Book Worm Angels program.
